Screening clinic to be held at Lake Tahoe Sugery Center

A free clinic will be held March 31 at the Lake Tahoe Surgery Center to screen children for possible acceptance into medical programs offered by Shriners Hospital for Children Northern California.

The clinic, which is sponsored by the Kerak Shriners, is open to children with spinal cord injuries, burns and scars from any cause, and orthopedic condiions including club foot, scoliosis, absence of limbs, spina bifida and orthopedic problems of cerebral palsy. A parent or legal guardian is required to complete a screening form before the child may be seen by a doctor. Forms may be obtained at the clinic.

The purpose of the clinic is to screen prospective patients in a location easily accessible o them. Volunteer medical personnel staffing the clinics examine prospective patients to determine whether they might be eligible for care provided by Shriners Hospitals.

Patients may also be referred to Shiners Hospitals by their doctors, nurses, friends and Shriners. The Sacramento Shriners Hospital also cares for children with birthmarks, congenital ear deformities and scars.

The clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at Lake Tahoe Surgery Center, 212 Elks Point Road., Suite 201, Round Hill Plaza, Zephyr Cove. Appointments are not necessary.
