Search on for superitendent

The search for a Lake Tahoe Unified School District superintendent has just begun, but school officials are optimistic that the position will be filled by August.

“That’s kind of the goal, July or August,” Board of Education President Wendy David said. “We’re hoping to have someone by the start of the new school year cycle.”

Since Rich Alexander’s March 31 resignation, the school board has been working with an executive search firm through the California School Board Association to find his replacement.

Assistant Superintendent Barbara Davis has taken over as interim superintendent, but said she will not be applying for the permanent position.

Applications will be accepted through June 22 and initial interviews are scheduled for July 14 and 15.

“We are in the process of seeking applications,” David said. “We are finalizing a brochure that will go out to school districts all through the state of California and outside the state of California. We’ve formed a district liaison committee to help us with interviews.”

Davis said she thinks more applicants will respond when the brochure is sent out.

“(The position) has been advertised for (about three weeks,)” Davis said. “Usually, you don’t see applications submitted until someone has seen a brochure. Generally, what has happened in these searches, is the last week or two is when you see the bulk of the applications, which would be mid- to later June.”
