Sen. Ensign endorses McCain for president

Associated Press

WASHINGTON ” Republican Sen. John Ensign of Nevada has endorsed Sen. John McCain for president.

Ensign has split ways with McCain in the past on issues including illegal immigration, but he issued a statement Friday saying he was enthusiastically behind the Arizona Republican.

Ensign, who heads fundraising efforts for Senate Republicans, cited McCain’s record in support of fiscal discipline and strong national defense.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney had easily defeated McCain in Nevada’s caucuses in January, winning more than 50 percent support, before dropping out of the race and endorsing McCain this week.
