Shanley adds second U.S. Selection Event win

Laurel Shanley of Squaw Valley was even better Friday than she was in winning Wednesday’s first U.S. Selection Event in Winter Park, Colo.

Shanley scored nearly a half-point higher to win the second moguls contest and guarantee her place in two upcoming World Cups in the United States. Her top run of 24.11 exceeded runner-up Heidi Kloser (23.53) and third-place Alison DiGravio (22.37) in the 57-competitor field.

Former South Lake Tahoe resident Jay Panther was 19th (21.90) in the men’s competition. Heavenly Foundation’s Marshall Curtzwiler was 34th (20.02), Jake Hickman placed 41st (19.13) and Yamato Kashima finished 64th (16.00).

Zak Watkins topped the 77-skier men’s field with a score of 24.52.
