Sierra-at-Tahoe says ‘Game on’ for Saturday opening
The wait is over for Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort, officials confirmed this afternoon.
With 12 to 14 inches of snow on the ground near the base and more coming, the resort will make its official opening Saturday.
“We’re totally psyched to be opening for the winter season. At 4:30 p.m. it is still snowing heavily and tomorrow will be a fun day,” said Kirstin A. Cattell, Sierra’s communication manager. “Our park crew is working through the night to place jibs on Broadway and our groomers have been working their magic all day to lay out the snow into perfect corduroy. We know our season pass holders are anxious to make some turns. We welcome them to come up and check it all out.”
The snow is expected to continue to fall throughout the night and into Saturday. Storm totals measured at 1 p.m. today reached 17 inches at elevation 8,852 feet.
Temperatures are mild and winds are calm. Caltrans is working steadily on the roads to keep them clear for the weekend.
The lifts open at 9 a.m. and will run to 4 p.m. There will be three trails, with two lifts, Easy Rider and Rock Garden running. Lift tickets are $35.
