Sierra fire near Sonora Junction is 99 percent contained

MINDEN, Nev. (AP) – Fire crews have almost completely contained a Sierra wildfire burning just over the Nevada line in California’s Mono County.

The fire has burned about 680 acres in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The Forest Service says it now is 99 percent contained and should be fully contained by Saturday.

The fire is located approximately one mile west of the U.S. Marine Mountain Warfare Training Center. It’s four miles west of the intersection of U.S. Highway 395 and California Highway 108 at Sonora Junction.

A closure remains in effect for all roads and trails in the fire area but all highways remain open.
