Sierra Tahoe Children’s Theater presents The Wizard of Oz

This weekend, Friday and Saturday, Sierra Tahoe Children’s Theater will be presenting The Wizard of Oz at the TADA Viking Theater at South Tahoe High School. The children, ages 5 to 14, participated in a two week workshop in musical theater and all were cast in the productions. The workshop was attended by more than 80 participants, who are divided into two casts for four performances. One of the casts, the “Emerald City Cast” includes Lily Demus as Dorothy, Morrison Salmon as the Scarecrow, Derek Bushrow as the Tin Man, Dean Kallas as the Lion and Grace Baker as the Wizard joined by a cast of munchkins, will be performing at the 2 p.m. show today and the 6 p.m. show on Saturday.

The “Ruby Slippers,” the other cast, includes Maddie Evans as Dorothy, Kayla Mason as the Scarecrow, Dayna Genna as the Tin Man, Lily Perez as the Lion and Zoe Brosch as the Wizard, are joined by their own crew of munchkins performing today show at 6 p.m. and the Saturday at 2 p.m. An advanced dance chorus, Winkies, Guards, Ozians, Crows and Tress appear in all four shows. Sierra Tahoe Children’s Theater has been under the direction of Nannette Niven and Marcia Sarosik for the last 10 years. Tickets cost $5 for adults and children enter free. Tickets will be on sale 30 minutes prior to each performance.
