Sign up now for Hands Around Lake Tahoe event on June 17

Hands Around Lake Tahoe, which will attempt to form a human chain around the lake in the celebration of summer and light, is scheduled for June 17 at noon on the beaches and shoreline of Lake Tahoe. Last year, thousands of local residents and visitors attended this free event.

Hands Around Lake Tahoe was founded several years ago by Debi LeFaye, owner and founder of the Academy of the Ancient Arts, headquartered in Tahoe City, California.

“Hands Around Lake Tahoe started out as a vision that I had and later found out that others saw the same thing,” LeFaye said. “We’re asking people to bring their bliss and share it by holding hands. Then to share that beauty that surrounds us and clean the beaches and shoreline of Lake Tahoe.”

Last year, the group picked up more than 700 bags of trash. Other beach activities have included weddings, potlucks, drumming circles, yoga, sermons and live music.

“Let us be the proverbial pebble in the pond, sending ripples around the world,” LeFaye said.

Hands Around Lake Tahoe is free and open to the public. To register for the event, contact LeFaye at (530) 448-1199 or sign up online at
