Six injured in motorcycle crashes

A Vacaville, Calif., man and his girlfriend were injured in a motorcycle accident one mile east of Spooner Summit on Friday afternoon.

Each was taken by helicopter to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.

Traffic was backed up for several miles for about 45 minutes, until both eastbound lanes reopened.

This accident was the fourth in the region involving a motorcycle within an hour starting at 1:20 p.m.

Thousands of motorcyclists are in the area for the Street Vibrations motorcycle festival in Reno this weekend.

Motorcycle accidents were reported just west of Spooner Summit, one mile east of the Summit, on Geiger Grade near the lookout, and on Griners Bend at the south end of Virginia City.

Six people in all were taken to the hospital, with the victims in the east Spooner Summit accident being the most seriously injured.
