Five members of the Tahoe Figure Skating Club competed in the Sweetheart Championships regional figure skating competition held at the Logitech Ice Arena in San Jose, Calif., on Feb. 5.

Representing the South Tahoe Ice Arena, all of Tahoe’s entrants medaled in their respective events, which was “quite an accomplishment for such a newly formed organization,” said Leigh-Ellen Yarbrough, skate school director for the South Tahoe Ice Arena. “South Tahoe’s rink has been opened just over two years, and we already have skaters competing at a high level. These girls worked very hard to prepare for this competition, and had a great time in San Jose.”

The competition results are: Michelle Betts – gold, free-style 4 solo compulsory; Courtney Bobo – silver, free-style 1 interpretive; Stevie Day – gold, beta solo compulsory; Lacie DeBraga – gold, alpha solo compulsory; Anna Seals – gold, free-style 3 technical; bronze, free-style 3 interpretive; gold, free-style 3 footwork.

“The excitement for figure skating in Tahoe is growing and anyone wanting to get involved just needs to contact the South Tahoe Ice Arena for a skate school schedule,” Yarbrough said.

The South Tahoe Ice Arena telephone number is (530) 542-6262.
