Smaine, Bowman Top Podium at Revolution Tour

NORTHSTAR (TDT) – South Lake Tahoe was well represented Tuesday at the USSA Revolution Tour Opening Day at NorthStar Resort. Skier half pipe was the event for the day and the crowd was well entertained by more than fifty athletes who took to the stunt ditch.

Kyle Smaine, who skis for Heavenly, took top honors for the men dropping in with a flair to right 900, to left 900, to alley-oop flatspin 360, followed by a switch 720. The podium was rounded out by Colby Stevenson in 2nd and Ben Parker in 3rd. Alec Bowman, 15, who skis for Sierra at Tahoe took 15th, in his first Rev Tour appearance.

For the ladies, Sierra at Tahoe’s Maddie Bowman dominated the field with a left 540, to right 540, to straight air, to air-to-fakie, followed by switch 360, straight air, to left 720, good enough for a first place finish. Annalisa Drew finished in 2nd and Abigale Hansen took 3rd.

In its eighth year, the Revolution Tour is a proving ground for up-and-coming athletes looking for a chance to compete against their peers on the national stage, according to US Freeskiing.

The action continues the rest of the week with skier slopestyle as well as snowboard half pipe and slopestyle. Sierra’s Julianne Brackett to perform in snowboard slopestyle on Friday.

The next stop for the Rev Tour is in Otsego, Mich. Jan. 29-Feb 3. Both Smaine and Bowman will head to Vermont next week for the Dew Tour in Killington.
