South Lake Tahoe local and professional skier Kyle Smaine will join the Sierra Resort Pro Team for the 2013-14 season, the resort announced Tuesday.

Smaine was born and raised in South Lake Tahoe and learned to ski at Sierra Resort. He ranked among the top 30 halfpipe and overall skiers in the world by the Association of Freesking Professionals and has multiple podium finishes at events such as the North Face Park and Pipe Open. Some may remember him as the “poacher” from last season’s Tanner Hall Invitational where he received votes for the best overall performance, the release stated.

“I’m excited to join the Sierra-at-Tahoe family,” Smaine stated in the release. “I love the mountain. It’s where I learned to ski with my family. The laid-back vibe, and focus on terrain parks have kept my friends and I coming back year after year. It is a natural fit, and I’m excited to shred at Sierra-at-Tahoe this season.”

For the 2013-14 season, Smaine has his sights set on the Winter Olympics and would love to represent the United States this season in Sochi, Russia. He also plans to compete in major halfpipe competitions such as the Grand Prix, North Face Park and Pipe Open.

Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort’s professional team also includes skier Maddie Bowman, and snowboarders Jamie Anderson, Hannah Teter and Mark Hoyt.
