STATELINE, Nev. – A small fire at the Horizon Casino Resort was contained within an hour Thursday evening.

A heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit on the roof of the building caught fire and was reported to Tahoe Douglas Fire District about 4:45 p.m., said Fire Marshall Mark Novak.

The second floor offices of the casino and the hotel lobby were evacuated. No one was hurt. There was a small amount of smoke in the casino and on the second and third floors, Novak said.

The fire was contained to the unit and extinguished by 5:15 p.m, Novak said.

“We’re fortunate it was contained to that unit and that it didn’t get into the mechanical spaces,” he said.

The casino was working to restore heat to its other HVAC units Thursday evening.

Crews from the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department, East Fork Fire District and North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District assisted TDFD.
