SOUTH LAKE TAHOE – South Tahoe High School senior Mel Smith’s standout season in the circle was recognized by the NIAA Wednesday as she was announced as a first team All-State team member.

Smith won 12 games this season for the Lady Vikings, going the distance in 17 total to post a record of 12-10.

Her 252 strikeouts to only 42 walks gave her one of the best strikeout to walk ratios in all of Nevada. She was a big reason why South Tahoe won the Mount Rose League championship with a 10-2 record. She was also elected as player of the year inside the Mount Rose as voted upon by league coaches.
