A 9-foot-tall bear made from snow has appeared in front of a residence on Hobart Road this week.

Stuart Smith of Essex, England, carved the bear as he was visiting a friend in South Lake Tahoe.

“The misses in (the house) wanted to see a bear,” he said. “She said she’s never seen a bear so I made her a bear.”

Smith has no background in snow carving and said he’s never attempted to build a bear from snow before.

“I didn’t even know I could do it, really,” he said.

“I did look back on it last night and thought, s— that’s pretty good,” Smith added.

It took about three hours to make the bear, using a mix of gardening tools and a snow shovel, he said.
