Getting food delivered via roller skates is largely a thing of the past, but having drinks delivered by snowshoe is going strong at Lake Tahoe’s South Shore.

The Beacon Bar & Grill at Camp Richardson launches its annual Snowshoe Cocktail Races at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16. The event promises some agile, and not-so agile, feats of drink delivery.

“Can you run in snowshoes? Can you run and carry a tray full of drinks in snowshoes? How about just watching people try?…Racers run with cocktail trays in hand through obstacles and up and down the beach,” according to a description of the event. “The winner is the fastest and cleanest at the finish. Spilling drinks is not a winning strategy.”

Sign-ups for the first cocktail race of the season start at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Beacon. Snowshoes will be provided, and all levels of competitor are welcome.

Prize sponsors include Southern Wine & Spirits, Coronado Brewing Company, Deschutes Brewing Company, Green Flash Brewing Company and Alpine Brewing Company, Sierra at Tahoe, New Belgium Brewing Company, The Landing Resort & Spa, Sports LTD, Sunsational Tans, Shoreline of Tahoe, Blue Dog Gourmet Pizza, Coldwater Brewery & Grill, Woodchart Enterprises, Action Watersports, Round Hill Pines Beach Resort and Camp Richardson.

The Beacon is located at 1900 Jameson Beach Road in South Lake Tahoe. The next Snowshoe Cocktail Races are Feb. 20, March 19 and April 16. For more information call 800-544-1801or visit http://www.camprichardson.com.
