Social worker is advisor to grief support group
Friends with Compassion (formerly called Compassionate Friends), a support group for families who have lost a child of any age will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the lounge of the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd.
The purpose of the group is to bring comfort and to help one another cope, especially with holidays, and people who don’t understand the effect of such a loss over time. Rebecca Phillipsen, social worker with Barton Hospice, who has worked with families to cope with grief at the loss of their loved ones, is the professional advisor to the group.
A plant exchange for mothers is planned during the meeting. One of the members will bring a birthday cake to honor the birthday of her son, who still lives on in her memory.
Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
