What: An Evening of Food and Wine Tasting
When: Friday, Nov. 11, 6 p.m.
Where: MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa
Calling all in need of an evening of fine wine and dining — the 46th annual Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe Evening of Food and Wine Tasting is Friday, Nov. 11. From 6-9:30 p.m., enjoy samples from over 20 wineries and 15 restaurants while interacting with the community in a “Red, Wine and Blue”-themed event.
“Expect delicious food from local restaurants and amazing wine — a lot of delicious wines from all over California. Wineries are coming up from Paso Robles; there are some Napa wineries and local wineries. It’s going to be a really fun, eclectic mix of food and wine. It’s like the Oscars of Tahoe — it’s fun to get dressed up and go out for a night,” Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe event chair Jennifer Lukins said.
Replacing the standard silent auction is a balloon raffle, new this year. Red, white and blue balloons will be numbered and valued at different price points — red balloons up to $59, white between $60 and $99, blue $100 and over. Simply choose a balloon and take the number to the prize room to claim your surprise.
Red balloons cost $20, white cost $60 and blue are priced at $100. Prizes include standard silent auction items such as gift certificates and baskets, quilted items, services, wine and tastings, artwork, hotel stays and more.
“This is a huge fundraiser for our community. Normally we bring in anywhere from $30,000 to $50,000, depending on the year. The money we put directly back into the community. We do that in a couple different ways. We give scholarships to kids in the community, high school scholarships for those going on to college or vocational school and pursuing education.
“We also have an allocations process where different organizations in the community can apply for grants for various projects. Any project that benefits youth and women in this community is where we focus,” Lukins said.
As the event takes place on Veterans Day, the theme of the event is Red, Wine and Blue — so be sure to dress accordingly. Soroptimist members suggest wearing patriotic cocktail attire and red, white and blue.
Returning by popular demand are the mystery wine bags. Priced at $20 per bottle, the wines range in value and varietal. This is your chance to take home the Rombauer!
The standard raffle will also return, featuring 14 items ranging from golf for four at Edgewood Tahoe to a Hawaii vacation, artwork, wine and more. Raffle tickets are priced at $10 each or five for $40. Active and retired servicemen and women who bring their service ID receive two free raffle tickets.
The event is open to anyone over the age of 21. Tickets are available for $75 on the Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe website, or through a club member.
An Evening of Food and Wine Tasting is held in the MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa Convention Center.
