Soroptimist names Young Woman of the Month

Each month during the school year Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe recognizes a senior from South Tahoe or George Whittell high school for their academic and extracurricular accomplishments. The Young Woman of the Month for March is Crystal Plotner of South Tahoe High School.

Plotner is the daughter of Glenn Plotner and Lisa Plotner of South Lake Tahoe. She has excelled academically with a 4.1 grade point average and a class standing of 17th in her 338-member class. A young women who believes strongly in following her heart and convictions, she recently demonstrated these passions during the peace rally she led at her school. She volunteers at Bijou Elementary School, where she assists the first-grade ESL students learn to read. Her hobbies include dance, running and participating in the drama program at the high school. She credits her mother and grandfather with being the most influential people in her life. They were recognized for stressing the importance of excelling scholastically and going to college and instilling values in literature and creativity.

Plotner has applied to the University of California campuses at Santa Cruz and Berkeley. She also has submitted applications to Reed College and Yale. She plans to major in Latin American or womens’ studies.
