Soroptimists name Women’s Opportunity Award recipient
Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe in partnership with Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra recently presented a Women’s Opportunity Award to Ty Vera Brown of South Lake Tahoe.
The award is given to women who have overcome severe hardships to seek improved economic status by gaining additional skills, training and education. Brown is said to have an inner strength and determined spirit that won’t be extinguished. She has overcome emotional and physical abuse, and today her focus is on school and financial success.
The Women’s Opportunity Award program is a major service project for Soroptimist members everywhere. Beyond the award given at the local level, recipients become eligible for additional awards at other levels of the organization. Since its inception in 1972, approximately $15 million has been disbursed to about 22,500 women.
