South Lake Tahoe man accused of choking mother at casino

STATELINE — A South Lake Tahoe resident is due to appear in Tahoe Township Justice Court on Nov. 18 after he allegedly placed his 78-year-old mother in a choke hold and took her car keys.

David Rau, 49, was taken into custody on Nov. 2 after he was detained by Lakeside Inn Casino security.

According to security, Rau’s mother was at a slot machine that afternoon when he came up behind her, grabbed her around the neck and pulled her to the ground. She told deputies he took her keys, but that a Samaritan came along and pulled Rau off of her and held him for security.
