South Lake Tahoe man is killed in hit and run

William Ferchland

A 68-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was killed early Tuesday by a hit-and-run driver when he was picking up household items that spilled onto Interstate 80 near Fallon, a Nevada Highway Patrol officer said.

Walton E. Trevithick, a 26-year resident of South Lake Tahoe, was hit by the unknown vehicle at 3:41 a.m. Trevithick pulled his 1975 Dodge pickup truck to the shoulder after ropes securing the load in his trailer snapped, spilling items onto both eastbound lanes of Interstate 80, Trooper Joe Winchester, spokesman for the NHP in Fallon, said in a release.

Trevithick was picking up the items in the fast lane when he was struck.

Anyone with information regarding this crash is asked to call the Reno office of the Nevada Highway Patrol at (775) 688-2500 or (775) 423-7946.
