South Lake Tahoe opened its doors on Friday to its services building on Tata Lane as part of an ongoing series of open houses to celebrate the 50th anniversary of incorporation.

Visitors received a brief tour and were able to browse the various current, pending and completed projects such as the Bijou Bicycle Park, the Sierra Tract Erosion Improvement Project, and the Tahoe Valley Area Plan currently pending approval by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency on July 22.

Judy Finn, an associate planner for the city, provided some insight on various topics and coordinated a casual game of Planning Jeopardy that included terms like NIMBY (Not in my back yard) and LULU (locally unwanted land use), as well as knowledge of the city’s various permitting and planning laws and regulations.

Out front, City Street Supervisor Azril Kalik gave an overview of the city’s snowplowing efforts and fleet of snow removal machines.

Resident Perry Obray called the display of the Tahoe Valley Area Plan, the latest community plan for South Lake Tahoe, “informative.”

“I think it looks cool,” Obray said. “It looks like a very complete plan.”
