South Shore’s annual Firefest is back on Saturday, Sept. 24. Come out to the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a day focused on life and fire safety for children and families.

“Sit in a fire truck, escape from the Smoke House, wear firefighting equipment, squirt fire hoses, play in a bounce house, meet Smokey Bear and Sparky, watch fire departments compete, learn about fire resistant construction and enjoy a Kiwanis BBQ,” states Tahoe South’s website page for the annual event.

Additional activities include meeting firefighters and learning firefighting skills, as well as home safety and energy conservation practices.

“Ladder trucks, helicopters and a lot of other fire equipment will be there for people to enjoy,” according to the Tahoe South site.

Games and prizes will also be held at Firefest.

The event is presented by the Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe, which performs many community service projects focused on serving children throughout the Basin’s South Shore.

At the height of fire season, fire safety measures help to reduce the threat of wildfire throughout the surrounding region.

Lake Tahoe Basin’s Firefest is an interagency effort including five Tahoe-based fire departments in addition to CalFire, the U.S. Forest Service and the California Conservation Corps.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is located at 50 Highway 50 in Stateline.
