South Shore Tahoe businesses come together

Sara Thompson / Tahoe Daily Tribune

A couple of long-time South Shore business owners are working together to cut costs and keep their businesses open.

Linda Spivack, Focus On Interiors owner, and Tom Otomo, Artrageous owner, decided to join forces and cut overhead costs by splitting the same commercial space.

Spivack’s business focuses on custom sewing for the home, affordable fabric for home decor, cleaning and organizing and real estate staging.

Otomo’s business offers custom framing.

Spivack said the two businesses complement each other because they’re both service-oriented and enhance home interiors.

The two have known each other for a long time, and they are in the same bowling league, which is where they began discussing the idea of renting out a space together.

“The move is keeping our costs down, and it’s a bigger space,” Otomo said. At his old location, the ceilings were only seven feet high. The new location has much high ceilings because it’s in a warehouse.

There’s even enough space upstairs for a television and playroom for Spivack’s granddaughter and Otomo’s daughter.

So far Spivack is mostly moved in, and Otomo said he’ll have his side ready by April 15.

They are planning a grand opening celebration from 4 to 7 p.m. on April 22.
