South Shore golfers hoping to get in a quick nine will soon have the opportunity to play at Bijou Golf Course.

The nine-hole golf course will open to links enthusiasts Monday, May 16.

The city-owned course will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Friday, May 27, before moving to regular hours later this month.

“Folks are anxious to get out there,” Lauren Thomaselli, recreation manager for the City of South Lake Tahoe, said in an email. “We will be operating under early season hours to start, but expect full day access by Memorial Day weekend.”

The course plays at 2,002 yards from the farthest tees and has a par of 32. The golf course was first opened in 1920 by Virgil Gilcrease and maintains much of its original configuration.

Each of the South Shore’s other three golf courses — Tahoe Paradise Golf Course, Lake Tahoe Golf Course and Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course — are also open for the summer season.

Bijou Golf Course is located at 3464 Fairway Ave. in South Lake Tahoe. A round of nine holes at Bijou costs $18.

Tee time reservations will be available and walk-ons are accepted. More information is available by calling 530-542-6056 or 530-542-6097.
