South Tahoe All-Star teams facing elimination games

Staff and news service reports

South Tahoe’s 10 and 11 Little League All-Star teams are in the elimination round after losing their district openers on Thursday night in Carson City.

South Tahoe’s 11 All-Stars lost 4-1 to Carson City despite a superb pitching effort by Garret Harley. Harley tossed a four-hitter over five innings but was one-upped by Carson City’s Jace Keema, who pitched a one-hitter.

South Tahoe threatened to score in the fifth inning, but with two outs and runners on first and second, Harley was thrown out by catcher Jayden DeJoseph trying to advance to third on a ball that bounced off the backstop.

“It was a great game,” said South Tahoe manager Joby Cefalu. “I have no complaints about anything the boys did. We didn’t make any errors that cost us any runs. It was a great ball game.”

South Tahoe’s 10 All-Stars’ effort was derailed by an injury to starting pitcher Ridge Merkley. Merkley suffered a broken hand early in South Tahoe’s 12-2 loss to Reno American.

Zen Contestable stroked a double to get the South Tahoe offense rolling. South Tahoe loaded the bases three times.
