South Tahoe erupts for 14 first-inning runs in Babe Ruth state qualifier

South Tahoe didn’t waste any time putting away Hawthorne in the Babe Ruth 13-15 All-Stars state-qualifier tournament on Saturday night at Todd Fields.

The home team batted around twice in the first inning, putting 14 runs on the scoreboard en route to a 21-5 win over Hawthorne.

The win propelled South Tahoe into Sunday’s 3 p.m. semifinal game against Battle Mountain. The winner of that game will be guaranteed a spot in next week’s state tournament.

“It all came together in the first inning,” said South Tahoe manager Kevin Higgins. “We dropped a couple of bunts, made some steals and executed some hit and runs.”
