SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – After the game, South Tahoe coach Mike Neiger had one word for his teams performance on Friday night against Truckee.

“Frustration.”

The Vikings lost 44-27 in the Blue Gym at South Tahoe, in a game that slowly got out of hand for the South Shore team.

“You got to credit Truckee shooting the ball. They shot well tonight. On the other side I know we’re better than we showed tonight,” Neiger said. “We left open shots out there again tonight. That’s the Achile’s heel tonight.”

The Vikings only had one player in double digits on Friday. Bailey David had 12 points, with the next highest scorer in Karley Martinez with five. Martinez was one bright spot for the girls though, especially going up against Truckee’s standout senior Aleigh Krug, who is Portland State bound on a full ride for basketball.

“A sophomore (Martinez) battling like that. That’s great to see,” Neiger said.

Martinez had six blocks and and six steals on the night, to go with 10 rebounds. Krug had 19 points for Truckee. Sassy Graham had 10 points.

“You can give one player 20 points, and the rest of the team you got to be better against,” Neiger said.

Truckee coach Geoff Stephens said he was worried facing South Tahoe, not familiar with the team.

“We didn’t know anything about South Tahoe except that we heard they were scrappy and they proved it tonight,” he said. “We’re very strong against the zone, which showed, but as soon as South Tahoe went to man we struggled with that.”
