RENO — Goalkeeper Candace Prescott blocked four shots and Bree Norton converted the game-winning shot as the South Tahoe girls’ soccer team defeated Spanish Springs 2-1 in a penalty-kick shootout on Friday night in the first round of the Northern 4A regional tournament at Damonte Ranch High School.

The top-seeded Vikings and fourth-seeded Cougars were tied 1-1 after regulation and two, 15-minute overtime periods. Alli Fox and Norton made their penalty kicks for South Tahoe, keeping the team’s 18-game win streak alive going into Wednesday’s semifinal match with Douglas at Damonte Ranch.

In other first-round action, Reed defeated Reno, McQueen upset Carson and Douglas edged Elko. A complete story will appear in Monday’s Tribune.
