South Tahoe golfers place fourth at tourney

Finishing in fourth place at their second game of the season was “great,” for the Vikings Varisty Boys Golf team, according to coach J. Brazil.

“We haven’t had very good weather for practicing; finishing fourth was great,” Brazil said.

South Tahoe faced seven other teams Tuesday at the Golf Course at Fallon, Nev.

Fallon placed first, Lowry second and Elko came in third.

Fallon won the tournament by 25 strokes. Lowry placed second with a 401, followed by Elko (445), South Tahoe (454), Spring Creek (458), Dayton (472), Fernley (495) and Sparks (688).

“I’m very proud of our team,” Brazil said. “After the match, when most players are ‘scoreboard watching,’ I couldn’t find any of my players. I finally located the entire team out on the putting green, working on putting and chipping.”

South Tahoe’s Payton Guttry shot 84, Griffen Boles shot 90, Evan Brown and Kolton Van Pelt shot 93, Max Borke shot 94 and Nick Pillsbury shot 102.
