SPC Jaryd Arnold Garrett was deployed to Iraq on Aug. 14 to join American Forces in the fight against terrorism. He is a 2003 graduate of South Tahoe High School and joined the Army immediately after graduation.

Born and raised in South Lake Tahoe, Garrett was a popular student and still is a well-known personality in the community. His mother is Julie Garrett and his foster father and mentor is Fred Wright Jr. He also has a brother, Joshua, and a sister, Monica. He married Jamie Lee Ellison on June 3 at South Pole, Alaska, and they are expecting a baby in late December.

Garrett’s mother will be sending care packages to him and his fellow soldiers currently stationed in Iraq. Anyone who would like to donate to the care packages may contact her at (530) 544-1039. Garrett requests calling cards to home, oatmeal-raisin cookies and candy bars. Personal messages for the soldiers are always welcome.

Garrett’s family and friends are asking people to join them in prayers that he and all of our American soldiers serving in Iraq have a safe and timely return home. “We love you Jaryd and we are all so proud of you. Come home soon,” from Garrett’s family and all the friends in Tahoe who love him.
