South Tahoe guard injured in win over Truckee

The South Tahoe girls’ basketball team bounced back from its first defeat with a 46-38 victory over Truckee on Friday in the Spanish Springs tournament.

Senior Alexis Holmes scored 22 points to lead the Vikings (2-1). Cassandra Diaz and Terra Backinger scored seven points apiece.

Diaz, however, twisted her knee in the victory. The extent of her injury won’t be known until Monday, according to STHS coach Chris Holmes.

South Tahoe built a double-digit lead but scrambled to stay ahead with Diaz and Alexis Nunes-Fenley getting into foul trouble.

“We’re trying to bring everybody else around, and we haven’t quite got there yet,” Holmes said. “Truckee was outworking us in middle of the game. I’m just glad we got the win.”

South Tahoe is scheduled to play at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
