South Tahoe High ROTC receives Navy’s highest honor

The South Tahoe High School Naval Junior ROTC program held its annual Navy Ball and Awards ceremony on May 1. Representatives from various civic organizations attended the ball to recognize the leadership and academic accomplishments of cadets in the program. The citizenship and leadership course, which is offered at South Tahoe High School for physical education or elective credits, received the U.S. Navy’s highest accolade, that of Distinguished Unit.

Individual award winners were:

n Nate Buffa – American Veterans JROTC Medal

n Aricela Ramos – Navy Ball queen, Reserve Officers Association JROTC Medal, American Legion Medal for Military Excellence

n Dustin Torres – Navy Ball king, Daughters of the American Revolution JROTC Medal, Sons of the American Revolution JROTC Medal

n Alicia Hudson – National Sojourners JROTC Medal

n Ansel Robinson – Veterans of Foreign Wars JROTC Medal

n Aaron Dartt – Military Officers Association of America JROTC Medal

n Nataly Gomez – Military Order of the World Wars JROTC Medal

n Ryan Wilson – Military Order of the Purple Heart JROTC Medal

n Britney Collins – Navy Ball princess, Non-Commissioned Officers Association JROTC Medal

n Gil Navarro – Navy League Youth Medal

n Alexandra Johnson – Order of the Daedalians JROTC Medal

n Kimberly Vizcaino – Sons of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Medal
