South Tahoe JVs cap 3-0 week by beating Sparks

South Tahoe High’s junior varsity boys’ basketball team completed a 3-0 week with a 56-42 triumph against Sparks on Saturday in South Lake Tahoe.

Cale Backinger carved up the Railroaders for 19 points. Hayden Bronken chipped in nine pints, Cody Higgins seven, Tyler Sharp six and David Ziello six.

A night earlier, three Vikings scored in double figures as South Tahoe routed Fernley 60-43 in Fernley.

Higgins led the Vikings with 15 points and was followed by Jason Rogers and Backinger with 10 points apiece, Bronken with nine and Tyler Sharp with seven.

Higgins scored eight points in the first period as the Vikings shot out to a 24-8 advantage. He wound up scoring most of his points on drives to the basket and also made a shot from beyond the three-point line.

“This team is very very good at moving the ball around,” said Roger Cramer, a member of South Tahoe’s coaching staff. “They truly have the concept of we. The future looks bright.”

South Tahoe took a 4-4 overall record into Tuesday night’s game with Dayton.
