South Tahoe swimmers head to the bright lights

Steve Yingling / Tahoe Daily TribuneThe South Tahoe Swim Team is taking 19 swimmers to the state club meet in Las Vegas.

For many South Tahoe Swim Club members it’s the biggest meet of the season.

South Tahoe Swim Club will take 19 participants to the annual Nevada state meet that begins Thursday in Las Vegas.

The four-day meet, which includes 700 competitors, begins with distance races on Thursday at the Las Vegas City Pool. Preliminaries are in the morning and finals at night.

“It’s another world in Vegas, and they are fast,” said South Tahoe coach Jerry Erickson of the competition his swimmers will face later this week.

Leading the South Tahoe contingent is Louis Marin, who is expected to contend for the 9-10 high point title.

Erickson has been training his team for this meet since September.

“They’ve been working pretty hard. This group’s strong swimmers have been doubling up with practices,” said Erickson, noting that the double workouts have started at 6:30 a.m.
