South Tahoe team wins; Norton tops boy at Sierra race
SIERRA at TAHOE, Calif. – The Vikings found themselves back on top of the Tahoe Basin ski league on Wednesday, followed by North Tahoe, Truckee and Whittell in that order. South Tahoe head coach Mike Shreve was happy to see his team bounce back after a sub-par showing in the previous race.
“The team definitely woke up yesterday, skied a very smart race. Everybody knew they were part of the team and did their part,” Shreve said. “We had very few disqualifications and very good results.”
Whittell’s Hughston Norton was the fastest boy down the course for the second time this year.
“Hughston yesterday was just a rocket. He had a great first run, finishing about two seconds ahead of the next guy,” Whittell head coach Pat Kelly said. “He just had a tremendous day on the hill yesterday.”
On the girls side, Mikaela Clothier of South Tahoe won.
“She was skiing superb. You know there were three or four girls beating her in the (Far West) and yesterday she beat them all,” Shreve said. “She just really came alive yesterday.”
