South Tahoe tennis teams open with convincing wins over Sparks

South Tahoe cruised to a season-opening 15-3 boys’ tennis victory over Sparks on Tuesday in Sparks.

The Vikings won all nine doubles matches, with the teams of Colton Marchesseault and Kolton Van Pelt and Grant Jones and Gregory Baghdikian each winning three matches while dropping a combined three games.

Phillip Gaston and Francisco Marin led the Vikings in singles play. Gaston won all three of matches, while Marin claimed both of his.

The Vikings play at Bishop Manogue on Thursday.

STHS girls shut out Sparks

With Rebecca Roberts, Cassandra Marin and Maggie Lee each winning three singles matches, South Tahoe rolled to an 18-0 season-opening girls’ tennis victory against Sparks on Tuesday in South Lake Tahoe.

In doubles play, sisters Amanda and Emily Rives posted three wins, losing just one game. The Vikings’ No. 1 doubles team of Angel Aquino and Kelsey Metzger won both of their matches in straight sets. The doubles duo of Rachel Altman and Adrienne Testa earned two Ws, while Grace Bronken and Ashley Tarwater and Danica Burnett and Rachael Caglia each provided a doubles victory.

South Tahoe plays host to Manogue on Thursday.
