South Tahoe wins nine events at home dual invite

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – With the roof still solidly over the South Lake Tahoe pool, the South Tahoe Vikings filled the air with plenty of heat last Friday, taking home first place finishes in nine separate events at their four-team invite.

The meet was setup as a dual format which pitted South Tahoe against North Valleys, Lowry and Truckee High School.

Running down the events, both the boys and girls side each had standout performances, none more impressive than the final event of the night which featured a South Tahoe sweep in the 400 freestyle relay.

On the girls side, the team of Margaret Albrecht, Clara Stewart, Kirsten Tang and Cassandra Marin combined to swim a pace of 4:19.97 which was tops. The boys were just as impressive as the team of Luca Genasci, Dillion Daggs, Hunter Busenlehmer and Francisco Marin posted a time of 4:13.40 which also was tops.

Staying in the relays, in the 200 yard medley relay on the boys side, the team of Busenlehmer, Kevin Brand, Genasci and Marin combined efforts to take the top spot overall with their time of 1:57.96. South Tahoe’s team of Ryan Piazzo, Samuel Bray, Aaron Piazzo and Tanner McAvoy were also fast enough to take home fifth spot overall.

For the girls it was against the successful matching of Marin, Stewart, Tang and Albrecht taking second place with their relay time of 2:11.09.

Taylor Schearer, Alexis Smith, Lianna Novak and Elissa Stewart were also quick. Their time of 2:21.89 was good for third overall.

Albrecht’s solid night on the girls side continued as the STHS freshman paced the field in the 200 yard freestyle. Her time of 2:14.34 was just ahead of teammates Elissa Stewart and Novak who finished third and fourth respectively.

Luca Genasci was top dog in the boys 200 free. His time there was a stellar 1:53.56.

Marin put up the fastest time in the girls 200 medley. She finished first with a pace of 2:32.64 – just ahead of Smith who came in third overall with her time of 2:52.84.

Piazzo was third fastest on the boys side in the 200 medley. His time was 3:01.24.

Francisco won the sprint freestyle on the boys side as his 50 yard time was a fast 24.90. Right behind him was a host of teammates led by a fourth place finish from Busenlehmer. His time was 27.34. Fifth was Jason Reim (27.53), Dustin Goodyear (28.17) was eighth, Tyler Corbin (31.81) was 13th and Ryan Piazzo (32.68) was 14th fastest overall.

Kirsten Tang was the Lady Vikings best finisher in the girls 50 yard race. She finished third overall in a time of 28.31. Behind her were teammates Clara Stewart (fourth, 28.91), Elissa Stewart (seventh, 30.47), Schearer (ninth, 31.25), Lyons (14th, 38.28) and Lia Verizatt (15th, 40.56).

South Tahoe swept the top spot in the 100 yard butterfly as it was Albrecht winning for the girls and Genasci for the boys. Albrecht’s time was a 1:12.78 while Genasci posted a 58.81.

Schearer was second best in the girls 100 yard freestyle race with a time of 1:08.75. Tarwater placed 10th, Alexa Posic was 11th and Lyons was 12th.

For the boys in the 100 free, they were led by a Piazzo eighth place time of 1:03.55. Reim and Dillion Daggs tied for eighth fastest, each posting a 1:06.15. Goodyear was 10th, Kevin Brand was 12th, Scott Pearce was 13th and Samuel Bray was 16th overall.

Marin’s second individual title on the night came in the girls 500 yard freestyle. Her time there was 5:56.28 while beat out Novak, her teammate, who finished second overall.

South Tahoe’s team of Smith, Schearer, Novak and Elissa Stewart posted a time of 2:03.55 which was good for second overall in the 200 yard freestyle relay. They were nearly matched on the boys side where Reim, Daggs, Goodyear and Aaron Piazzo combined their effort to take third place which a pace of 1:50.93. Right behind them was a time of 2:10.93 posted by Pearce, Tanner McAvoy, Ryan Piazzo and Corbin who were fifth fastest overall.

In the 100 yard backstroke if was nearly a clean sweep at the top by the South Tahoe boys. Leading the group with a first place time of 1:05.13 was Francisco. He was followed in the runner-up spot by Busenlehmer who had a time of 1:14.18. Daggs was fourth fastest with his time of 1:30.62. Ryan Piazzo was fifth with his time of 1:30.62.

Alexa Posic was the lone scorer on the girls side in the backstroke. She finished with a third place time of 1:28.53.

Clara Stewart won the 100 yard breaststroke for the South Tahoe girls. She bested the competition with her time of 1:22.84. It was just ahead of Smith, her teammate, who was third fastest with her time of 1:27.75. Tarwater was eighth fastest with a time of 1:51.57.

For the boys it was Kevin Brand who finished near the top. His 100 yard breaststroke time of 1:21.09 was third fastest. It beat out Samuel Bray who also finished well in fifth with a time of 1:27.94.
