Spaghetti Night at Bert’s to benefit AVID students
The Jr. AVID first annual Spaghetti Night fundraiser is scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bert’s Cafe. Tickets are $10 per person and are available through the Class of 2009 AVID students or from the Associated Student Body office located at South Tahoe High School. Proceeds from the evening go toward funding a field trip for the students to visit three colleges: University of California, Santa Cruz; Santa Clara University; and San Jose State University.
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. The program is designed to promote college readiness through tutoring and a curriculum focused on college components. AVID is offered at South Tahoe Middle School, STHS and some elementary schools in this district. Both STMS and STHS have been recognized and honored as National Demonstration Sites. AVID programs can be found in schools across the country as well as internationally.
