Spay-neuter voucher program helps to reduce number of unwanted pets

The Animal Coalition of Tahoe will participate in Spay Day USA with a special program in February. Spay Day USA is a national campaign sponsored by the Humane Society of the United States to promote the life-saving benefits of spaying and neutering.

ACT is reducing the application fee to $10 in February for the first 40 applicants in its spay-neuter voucher program. Vouchers usually are $25.

Here’s how it works: Pet owners bring the vouchers to their appointment for a regular spay-neuter procedure with a participating veterinarian, and ACT will pay for the balance of the procedure’s cost.

Applications for the voucher can be obtained at Pet Supermarket, Pandora’s Trunk, Stardust Vacation Resort, Sports Ltd. at Stateline, and Round Hill Animal Hospital by calling (530) 222-9183, or online at http://www.tahoeanimals.org. Write “Spay Day 2008” on the application to pay the discounted fee.

ACT is a nonprofit, volunteer organization formed in 2003 to reduce the number of unwanted pets in the South Tahoe area. Through several fundraising events each year, the group sponsors its spay-neuter voucher program, promotes adoptable animals and donates 10 percent of funds raised to the El Dorado County Animal Shelter.
