Special Events Coalition to meet June 7

The South Lake Tahoe Special Events Coalition meets Thursday, June 7 at 9:30 a.m. The meeting, which is open to the public, will be at the Tahoe Season’s Resort at the corner of Keller and Saddle Road.

The Special Events Coalition was formed in 1992 by area media, public relations, resort, casino and business representatives. It was created to help small and medium special events collaborate their efforts to promote and carry out successful promotions to increase tourism and boost the area’s economy during traditionally slow seasons.

At the June 7 meeting, the volunteer group will discuss the Valhalla Renaissance Faire, which continues this weekend, this summer’s Valhalla Arts & Music Festival; Kirkwood’s many summer events; a recap of the Lake Tahoe Film Festival; Celebrity Golf Championship; Disc Golf Tournament; and Wagon Train & California Heritage Days at Coloma, among other items.

Anyone interested in promoting or helping organize special events on the South Shore is invited to attend. The coalition meets every other month to identify opportunities in Lake Tahoe’s special events calendar, increase awareness of regional special events, and to help nonprofit groups better publicize their events to the community.

To have items added to the special events agenda, contact coordinator, Marvin Weitzenhoffer at (530) 577-6024.
