Dodgers upset Angels; advance to title game

Tanner McAvoy went 2 for 4 with two doubles, and Andrew Contaxis went 2 for 4 with a triple as the Dodgers beat the regular season champion Angels for the second time this year to advance to Saturday’s championship in the South Tahoe Babe Ruth Tournament.

Matt Schorr went 2 for 3 with a triple and two runs scored, while Christian Winslow scored twice for the Dodgers, who lost twice to the Angels during the regular season and beat them once.

The Angels were led by T.J. Kolesnik, who went 3 for 3 with two runs, and Alex Vogt, who went 2 for 2, scored a run and belted a double.



The Angels play the Giants on Friday night for the right to play for the Dodgers for the title. Saturday’s championship game starts at noon, with a second game, if necessary, scheduled for 3 p.m. at Todd Fields.

Red Sox 8, Mariners 0



Jordan Zager went 3 for 4 with a run scored, and the Red Sox scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back in their shutout win over the Mariners in an elimination game on Tuesday.

Alex Potnick threw three innings of no-hit ball, while Brady Renninson allowed only two hits in the final four innings. Potnick also scored twice and singled.

The Mariners were led by Jake Braun and Will McBride, who both singled.

Giants 13, A’s 8

Dylan Simonian went 3 for 3 with four runs scored, while Cody Higgins scored twice and hit twice for the Giants as they staved off elimination with a win over the A’s in a loser’s bracket game on Monday. Julian Washalefsky went 3 for 3 with a run in the win.

Jamie Yelles went 3 for 3 with a triple in the loss, while Leo Trebotich and Jake Daum each had three hits and scored twice.

The Giants beat the Red Sox 12-5 in an elimination game on Thursday night. No other details were available at press time.
