Highlander boys fall to Lions

Taylor Redfern scored 23 points to help lead the Incline Highlanders girls past the Yerington Lions 40-36 Thursday, Feb. 15, in the first round of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association Class 2A Northern Region Basketball Championships at Adobe Middle School in Elko, Nevada.

The No. 5 Highlanders started red hot with 23 points in the opening quarter but went ice cold in the second. Still, the Highlanders held a 23-16 halftime lead. The teams grinded it out in the third period and Incline held a 29-19 lead heading into the final frame.

Redfern, who has scored in double digits every game this season except one, hit 3 of 12 shots from beyond the arc, grabbed six rebounds, made five blocks and dished three assists, Madison Corneil added six points and six boards and Haeden Suter scored five and hauled in seven rebounds as the Highlanders won the rubber match, taking two out of three this year from the Lions (17-13).

The Highlanders (13-11) will play top seed White Pine (23-2) at 6:20 p.m. today, Feb. 16, at the middle school. If they win, Incline will play the winner of No. 2 Battle Mountain and No. 3 Pershing County at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Elko High School.

The Incline Highlanders boys' basketball team suffered an 82-59 loss Thursday, Feb. 15, in the quarterfinals of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association Class 2A Northern Region Basketball Championships at Adobe Middle School in Elko, Nevada.
