Incline girls basketball team secures No. 5 seed in playoffs

Taylor Redfern was dialed in from long distance and scored twice her average Friday night, Feb. 9, and the Incline girls' basketball team roared past North Tahoe 79-27 at home to finish the regular season.
Redfern scored 36 points, including 10 3-pointers, dished 10 assists, made three steals and blocked three shots to lead the Highlanders to victory and the No. 5 seed out of the 2A Northern League. The junior finished the regular season with 91 3-pointers in 23 games played, an average of almost four per game. She attempted 232 from beyond the arc and made 39 percent.
Carolyn Eppolito added 14 points Sami Giangreco had seven, Haeden Suter had six, Madison Corneil scored five, Serena Faulkner had three and Verenice Sanchez and Ava Laurie each made a basket. Faulkner had seven rebounds and Suter had six. Corneil dished three assists and made three steals.
Incline (12-11, 7-7 2A Northern) heads into the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association Class 2A Northern League Girls' Basketball Championships Thursday, Feb. 15, as the No. 5 seed. The Highlanders will play No. 4 Yerington (17-12, 7-7 2A Northern) at 6:20 p.m. at Adobe Middle School in Elko, Nevada.
The Highanders split the season series with Yerington, beating the Lions 41-36 Jan. 6 at home and losing 38-34 Feb. 6 on the road. Redfern scored 31 of the Highlanders 41 points in the victory and 18 in the defeat.
Incline was a quarter away from a season sweep of the Lions last week but the Highanders were outscored 10-0 in the final frame.

If Incline wins its quarterfinal matchup, it will play league champ White Pine at 6:20 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at Adobe Middle School. In the other half of the bracket, No. 3 Pershing County will play No. 6 Silver Stage at 3 p.m. Thursday with the winner facing No. 2 Battle Mountain at 3 p.m. the next day.
