Lake Tahoe CC women’s soccer blanks Shasta 4-0

Lake Tahoe defender Mackenna Lynn wins the ball in front of Shasta forward Tabitha Gibson in the Coyotes’ 4-0 win over the Knights on Tuesday.

The Lake Tahoe Community College women's soccer team got rolling after halftime Tuesday to extend its current unbeaten streak to four matches. The Coyotes scored three goals in the second half of a 4-0 win over Shasta College (Redding, Calif.), a result that puts them two points shy of the top spot in the conference standings.

Lake Tahoe (7-4-4, 3-2-2 Golden Valley) opened the scoring midway through the first half. Forward Tianna Carrington took a through ball from midfielder Keely Martin, beat two defenders, then slotted a shot past Shasta's goalkeeper to make the score 1-0 in the 21st minute.

The Coyotes controlled possession for a majority of the opening 45 minutes, but couldn't add to their lead despite outshooting Shasta (3-9-1, 2-4) by an 18-1 margin. After halftime, LTCC converted its chances to win the match going away.

In the 60th minute, Carrington put Lake Tahoe ahead 2-0 with a goal off an assist from forward Tori Smith. Three minutes later, Martin found the back of the net to make the score 3-0 — Martin added a second in the 79th minute off an assist from midfielder Marisol Lizaola.

In goal for Lake Tahoe, Alejandra Orozco made two saves to record her fifth shutout of the season. The win puts the Coyotes in third place, two points behind co-league leaders Feather River College (Quincy, Calif.) and Lassen College (Susanville, Calif.).

Through Tuesday's matches, Lake Tahoe was ranked 16th in Northern California. The Coyotes return to action Friday at Feather River and face College of the Redwoods (Eureka, Calif.) next Tuesday in a match at Shasta.
