The South Tahoe High School swim team recently started its season, with several athletes giving top performances. The Vikings hosted Fernley, Reno, Spanish Springs and McQueen high schools for a March 14 meet at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center.

Although the Vikings held their own and were competitive with all other schools, their dual meet had them pitted against Fernely. The South Tahoe boys team came out on top, 142 to 42, and the girls team tallied even more points, finishing 157 to 74.

South Lake Tahoe swimmers Louis Marin (backstroke), Temugen Enkhbayar (breaststroke) and Tristan Klasko (butterfly) placed overall first in their individual events. Maia Smith finished overall fifth in the breaststroke, while Alex Otomo finished overall third in the butterfly and fourth in the 500 freestyle.

“Our swimmers demonstrated mid-season form with good endurance and strong finishes,” said head coach William Davenport. “Veteran swimmers posted fast times while our young swimmers gained valuable experience, many of them competing in their first meet.”

The team will travel to Truckee April 1 for its next meet.
