January 26, 2018
South Tahoe’s Maddie Bowman returned to the top of the X Games podium Thursday night, Jan. 25, claiming her fifth gold medal in ski SuperPipe with a second-run score of 92.00.
Bowman opened her first-place run in Buttermilk, Colorado, with a big mute grab and went on to land a trio of 900s to claim gold. The 24-year-old won X Games gold from 2013-16 in SuperPipe and is the defending Olympic gold medalist in ski halfpipe.
Brita Sigourney, 28, of Carmel, California, finished second behind her second-run score of 90.33. Sigourney grew up skiing at Alpine Meadows and will represent Team USA at next month’s Olympics.
Canadian Cassie Sharp, 25, finished third with a third-run score of 88.66.
Bowman, Sigourney, Annalisa Drew, and Devin Logan each earned spots on Team USA’s freeski halfpipe squad after an announcement by U.S. Ski & Snowboard on Monday, Jan. 22.
On the men's side, David Wise, 27, of Reno claimed a fourth X Games gold medal in ski SuperPipe on Thursday night, Jan. 25, capturing first place with a score of 94.00.

Wise, who won X Games gold from 2012-14, took the lead early on with a 90.66 in his first run, and remained in first place throughout the competition.
The defending Olympic halfpipe gold medalist then bested his opening run with his third and final attempt in the SuperPipe event, which included all four of Team USA's freeski men's members. Wise opened with a giant switch double cork 1080, which set up the first of four double corks (two distinct off axis rotations) during the run.
Wise would ultimately need the improved score as Alex Ferreira, 23, of Aspen, Colo., later threw down a run in the pipe for a 91.33 from the judges to claim the silver medal. Torin Yater-Wallace, 22, also of Aspen, claimed bronze with a first-run score of 86.66.
