Smith helps Incline roll past Battle Mountain; Highlanders play at North Tahoe Thursday night

Ian Smith shots the lights out and kept Incline inline to share a league championship.

The senior co-captain scored 23 points Thursday, including five 3-pointers, to lead the Highlanders past the Battle Mountain Longhorns 64-40 in Incline Village.

Incline hit Battle Mountain with body blows in the first two quarters but knocked out the Longhorns in the third.

The Highlanders led 17-10 after the first period and 28-19 at halftime before burying the Longhorns with a 23-8 to start the second half.

Also for Incline, freshman TT Valosek added 15 points and seven rebounds, Liam Nolan-Bowers added six points, 13 rebounds and four assists, Matthew Cornell netted six points and pulled down seven rebounds, Johnny Redfern had six and freshman Brody Thralls chipped in five.

Incline (18-6, 12-1 2A Northern League) remained one-half game behind West Wendover (13-1 Northern) in the league standings. The Highlanders had a game vs. Yerington postponed due to weather earlier this season and it will be made up Feb. 12 to end the regular season.

Incline's Tuesday game against rival North Tahoe (5-8 Northern) in Tahoe City was pushed back until 7:30 p.m. Thursday due to weather.

The Highlanders will suit up the next day at Pershing County (2-11 Northern) and will finish the regular season Tuesday, Feb. 12, with a big game against Yerington (11-2 Northern) at home.
