South Tahoe girls lose 3 at High Sierra tourney
December 6, 2017
The South Tahoe girls' basketball team opened the 2017-18 season this past weekend with three losses at the High Sierra Tournament in Reno.
The Vikings lost Thursday to Damonte Ranch 49-12, on Friday to Galena 57-11 and Saturday to Carson 50-19.
"I like to use preseason tournaments to see the areas we need to improve upon, and they were evident," said Vikings head coach Mike Neiger. "We did play bigger schools, but what it boils down to is we need to take care of the ball better. We had way too many turnovers all three days and we haven't really found an offensive identity. It's a work in progress."
Neiger is going to look for his two returning seniors, Bailey Segers and Maegan Perez along with three returning juniors Malorie Neiger, Teagan Williamson and Kaitlyn Janese to lead the Vikings this season.
Neiger also brought up a freshman, Kayleen Conard, to the varsity for the first time in his seven seasons as head coach. He complimented Conard's strong summer, work ethic and great attitude.
Rounding out the 10-person roster are seniors Jenny Martinez and Megan Aquino, junior Hailey Naccarato and sophomore Teagan Welch.
